Business of The Month: Raber Patio Enclosures and Furniture

The April Business of the Month celebrates Raber Patio Enclosures and Furniture, a locally owned and operated business. This blog is the first installment of the series. Check back throughout the month to learn more about what Raber Patio offers, including its Open House celebration April 19-21.

We recently enjoyed a week of R and R “down south” with extended family; while we were there, we could be found in one of two places: near the water; or on the sun porch. We kept up this ritual for eight straight days, and we never tired of the routine.

I know we can’t capture the same year-round weather in Northern Indiana, but I wonder if we could capture the same feeling if we had our own screened in porch.

“Definitely,” answers a couple I interviewed at Raber Patio. They lived in a 1970s home on which they chose to add a four-season room instead of remodeling the inside of their home. The day I talked with them, they were visiting Raber Patio again because they were ready to embark on another task, and having been so satisfied with Raber Patio in their first addition, they returned for the new project.

After lounging on a white rattan sectional while talking with this couple, I wandered around the store, my vision for a transformed backyard growing with each step I took.

The end of my story? I didn’t get a new sunroom, but I did spot some pretty amazing rocking chairs in tropical colors. I also purchased a new campfire ring and grill, over which many a s’more has been created by now.

I am happy with my purchase and even happier with my customer service. Chris Schlabach, the manager of Raber Patio, seems like a friend. He is down-to-earth, affable, and part of the local culture. He knows the product he sells and helps the customer to understand, too.

I know that some day I’ll recreate a similar scene in my own home as I did on vacation. In the morning I’ll wake up early and sit inside the screened-in porch sipping coffee, listening to the lilt of the mockingbird and watching the bougainvillea dance in the morning breeze.

In the evening, I will position myself on the same reclining chairs, this time eating a bowl of orange ice cream purchased from the citrus grove, sharing stories about the day until the sun sets.

And some day, I won’t have to travel to enjoy the warmth of the sunroom; instead, that lovely lounging area will be all mine.
