Howe Do You Like Your Art?

“How Do You Like Your Art?”

“Fine, thanks.”

When most people hear the term “fine art,” they might think of strange works found in edgy galleries in big cities. Other people might think of Renoir or Picasso, whose works are revered in museums and are worth millions.

Painting at Kingsbury House Gallery

At the Kingsbury House Art Gallery in Howe, you will not see works by famous historical artists, but you will find beautiful art you can really appreciate by local artists at a very reasonable price.

You will discover some of the best work by artists in Indiana and Michigan. Feast your eyes upon:

  • drawings
  • paintings
  • photographs
  • textiles
  • sculpture
  • jewelry
  • pottery
  • metal art, and
  • blown and fused glass.

The prices are very reasonable. I attended the gallery’s Christmas open house and grabbed up several pieces that made for extra-special gifts. One of those items I gifted to myself.

You can see and purchase beautiful locally-made pottery at Kingsbury House Gallery.

I pride myself in supporting the local arts. These artists create fantastic work, and their love for their art shines through in the beauty of their pieces.

Even the building is a work of art. In 1864, the building was a grand hotel but fell into disrepair. In 2008, local residents Richard and Karen Frischkorn began refurbishing efforts. The couple later hired art expert Linda Chase, and the idea for an art gallery was born.

Not only does the list of artists represented continue to grow, but the building’s refurbishing efforts also grow. Nearly the entire block has been restored to its former beauty, providing the owners with an opportunity to expand its offerings.

Now, Kingsbury House Gallery offers art and pottery classes. Beginning in April, you can find a class varying from introduction to sewing all the way to fused dichroic glass jewelry and pottery. Currently, 11 classes are being offered, with more to come.

Handmade decorative glassware is at the gallery.

Kingsbury House Gallery is located on Howe’s town square, which also includes an ice cream parlor, a bookstore, and three restaurants. A park resides on the town square as well, and is the location for the Saturday morning farmer’s market, along with music, the Thursday night cruise-in, and in September, the Indiana Summer Days Festival.
