There’s shopping for Christmas, and there’s experiencing Christmas.
Like most of you, I can’t begin to think about shopping yet; we haven’t even celebrated Thanksgiving, and I have to eat turkey and my mother-in-law’s homemade stuffing before my mind can turn to making lists and checking them twice.
However, the spirit of Christmas, in my opinion, should be experienced 24/7, 365. For those who need a bit of prodding, Mel Riegsecker and the folks at Blue Gate Restaurant & Theater will have you feeling warm and cozy about the holidays before you can say, “Peace on Earth.”
Beginning today, five different events hosted by Blue Gate Restaurant and Theater are being highlighted for your holiday-celebrating spirit.
“Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” at the Lighting Ceremony November 12
Ask anyone in Shipshewana about last year’s lighting ceremony, and they can’t help but smile nostalgically at the memory of hearing 200 voices offering up beautiful harmony in Christmas songs. Everyone looks forward expectantly to November 12 this year, when that same melodious moment will be captured at the Light Ceremony. Immediately after carols are sung, all the thousands of Christmas lights decorating Blue Gate Restaurant & Theater, including the giant Christmas tree outside, turn on at the same time, igniting the entire area with glad tidings and great joy!
This de-“light”-ful event immediately follows the town-wide Light Parade, which begins at 6 pm.
